READ

get_work_item

One work item by id, with its reference, kind, title, prose, status, priority, people, estimates, the fields its kind adds, the components it touches and its acceptance criteria in order.

Return one work item: its reference, kind, title, description, status and resolution, priority, the people on it, its estimates and dates, the fields its kind adds (a story's persona and sentence, a bug's severity, environment, reproduction and results, a spike's time box and outcome), the ids of the components it touches and its acceptance criteria in order, each with its kind and its Given, When and Then. Read it before you implement, test or review an item, so the criteria and the expected behaviour are in front of you, and read the epic it hangs under with get_epic for the goal.

An item of a project the token may not see, or an item that is not agreed read through a guest token, is unknown rather than forbidden.

Requires ability

The token behind the MCP session must hold it, or the call is refused with TOKEN_MISSING_ABILITY.

The REST endpoint and this tool share one action, so validation, permissions and events are identical.

Annotations

Read-only

It reads and never changes anything.

Arguments

work_item_id*string

UUID of the work item to fetch.
