Teams
Create a team, make one of yours current, open its members, and rename or delete the teams you own, with what each action changes.
By the end of this page you will know what a team is for, how to move between the teams you belong to, and what creating, renaming and deleting a team does to the people and projects in it.
A team is the unit that owns projects. Each team has one owner, the person who created it, and any number of members, each with a role. Everything you open in Zuse Bifrost acts within one team at a time: the team marked Current.
Before you begin
| You need | Why |
|---|---|
| An account | Anyone signed in may create a team and becomes its owner. |
| To own the team | Renaming and deleting a team are the owner's alone; a member with the admin role cannot do either. |
| Another team, to delete your current | You cannot delete your only team, because every page acts within one. |
Where teams live
Open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Account Settings, then Teams in the settings navigation. The page lists every team you own or belong to, alphabetically:
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Team | The team's name, with a Current badge on the one your pages act within. |
| Your role | Owner for a team you created, otherwise the name of the role you hold in it. |
| Members | How many people are in the team, the owner included. |
The account menu also carries the team switcher: the same teams as a list of radio items, with a Manage Teams link to this page.
Create a team
- On the Teams page, press Create a Team.
- Type the Team name and press Create.
- The team appears in the table with you as its owner. If you had no current team yet, the new one becomes current at once, so your first team is usable the moment it exists.
A new team is seeded with the eight default roles, so you can invite people straight away.
Switch to another team
- Open the row menu (the three dots) of the team you want to work in and choose Switch to this team, or pick the team in the account menu's switcher.
- The dashboard reloads within that team. Everything you open from now on, projects included, belongs to it.
Switching is navigation, not a change to the team or your membership; nothing is logged or announced.
Open a team's members
- Open the team's row menu and choose Members.
- The members page opens, if your role in that team lets you see members. The owner always can.
Rename a team
- Open the row menu of a team you own and choose Rename.
- Change the Team name and press Save.
- The new name shows everywhere at once, and a
team.updatedevent carries the old and new name to any webhook subscribed to it.
Saving the same name again writes and announces nothing.
Delete a team
Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Its members lose access at once, and the team's roles, groups and pending invitations are removed with it.
- Open the row menu of a team you own and choose Delete.
- Read the confirmation, which names the team, and press Delete Team.
- Every member who was working in that team is left without a current team and picks one on their next visit. If the deleted team was your own current team, you are moved to another team of yours, an owned one first.
Deletion is refused, with a message instead of a dialog, when:
- the team is your only one;
- the team still owns projects, archived ones included. Move or delete them first, so no project is left without a team;
- you are not the owner.
