Timezone and Language

Choose the timezone every date and time in the application is read and shown in, understand how it was detected, and pick the interface language.

By the end of this page you will know where your account's timezone came from, how to confirm or change it, and where the language setting lives.

Both settings live under Settings → Localization, as two independent cards with their own Save Changes buttons.

Language

The Language Selection card lists the languages the application speaks. One language ships today, English, so the picker has one option; the card exists so the choice is already on your account when another language arrives. Pick the language and press Save Changes.

Where your timezone comes from

Every time you enter and every time you read, from sprint boundaries to maintenance windows and scheduled reports, is read in your account's timezone. A wrong value never contradicts itself: every screen agrees, and the sprint simply starts at the wrong hour. So the application takes care to know how the value was arrived at, and the Timezone Settings card tells you which of three states you are in.

What the card saysWhat it means
"This is the timezone you chose"You picked it, here or by answering a suggestion. Nothing changes it but you.
"Detected from your browser"The application read it from your browser. A later detection may revise it.
"You have never set this"Neither happened; the card shows the workspace default rather than a choice of yours.

Detection

The first time your browser opens the application in a session, it reports its timezone. If your account has no chosen zone, the report is stored silently as detected. If the report disagrees with a zone you have already scheduled work against, nothing changes: a banner at the top of the page shows both zones with their current offsets and offers Use the detected one or Keep the current one. Either answer counts as a choice and the banner does not return.

Whatever you choose, anything already scheduled stays exactly where it is. Switching changes only the times you enter from then on.

Change your timezone

  1. Open Settings → Localization and find the Timezone Settings card.
  2. Pick your zone from the list. It is grouped by region and searchable; typing a city such as Colombo or London jumps to it. Each entry shows its current offset.
  3. Press Save Changes.
  4. Every time in the application is now shown in the chosen zone, and the card reads "This is the timezone you chose".

Choosing the zone already shown counts too: it turns a default into a decision.

A chosen zone is never overwritten by detection. Travelling does not move it, which keeps sprint reports consistent across trips; change it by hand when you relocate for good. Running on a zone that is not your own is a legitimate choice for someone who plans for a team elsewhere.

Where the timezone is used

  • Dates and times on every page: activity entries, due dates, last-used stamps and the like are shown in your zone.
  • Times you enter: a sprint that starts "Monday 09:00" starts at 09:00 in your zone.
  • Emails and digests: times in notifications are written in your zone.
