Labels API

A label is a word a project pins on its work items: payments, tech-debt, client-asked.

A label is a word a project pins on its work items: payments, tech-debt, client-asked. The vocabulary is the project's own, kept short, each word unique within the project whatever its case and coloured so the backlog reads at a glance. Labels are pinned through the work item endpoints' label_ids and read back on every item as labels; these endpoints shape the vocabulary itself. A label is not an artefact: it carries no versions, and removing it unpins it everywhere without touching the items.

Shaping the vocabulary follows the work item permissions: whoever may change a story may add the word it needs (work-item:update), and whoever may read the backlog may read the words (work-item:view-any). Every write announces itself as a label.* event.
